Mexico’s Sugary Drink Tax is Working, Study Suggests

A new study looks at the effects of Mexico's soda tax one year later. In January 2014, Mexico implemented an excise tax of 1 peso per liter for sugar-sweetened beverages as a way to cut down on the country’s growing obesity epidemic. Similar strategies have been debated in the U.S. as well, and Berkeley, California added a tax to sugar-sweetened beverages in March 2015. Still, there’s little research on the effects of taxes for beverages, like soda, over time.
