Bear Dance

As night falls, and the new year approaches, children from the Trotus Valley of Romania listen out for the crunch of bear claws on the snow. Drumbeats and flutes echo along the alleyways, and a raucous pack of “bears” approach through the darkness, dancing and playing music for tips, liquor, and cubes of pig fat.
