For more than thirty years I have photographed the proud and immutable integrity of the Afghan people. Resistance fighters, rebels, soldiers, refugees, exiles, farmers, bakers, mothers, daughters, schoolchildren, and infants — all caught up in the history of this ancient and contested country.
